Searching for and selecting an ERP System that will be compatible with your company’s goals and processes shouldn’t be an overwhelming task, but it should be taken with care.

More specifically, there are certain answers that electronics or high tech manufacturers should be on the lookout for to ensure the respective solution is going to help create more efficient operations, manage complex supply chains and get your products to market faster.

Let’s take a look at the three answers you need from electronics or high tech manufacturing ERP vendors to be confident that you are on the path to making the right decision.

1. “Our ERP solution provides access to tools that allow you to run more efficient operations.”

Low-cost overseas manufacturing and innovative technologies may have reduced turnaround time, but have increased competition within the marketplace. Your ERP solution should help you succeed within the industry, aiding in shop-floor execution in order to eliminate mistakes and delays, reduce waste and achieve the highest level of product quality. Inventory management tools, lot and serial control, and regulatory and quality control management should also be included in your ERP suite.

2. “We know the electronics manufacturing industry.”

Your ERP vendor should be well versed in your industry and their software should offer solutions that can be tailored to suit your industry-specific needs. It’s important to do your own research and look for evidence that the tools and solutions promised are being used within the industry and they receive regular enhancements and updates.

This ensures that the ERP software is equipped with the latest features that technology has to offer. Even more so, make sure these features are already available with the solution and not, “in-development”. The best vendors should be able to provide you with the opportunity to speak with references. If they can’t provide them, it may be best to look elsewhere.

3. “We offer affordable and committed ERP system support post implementation.”

This may be the make or break answer that leads you to commit to an ERP vendor. Look for a vendor that makes a clear case that they’re interested in not only a short-term software transaction, but puts emphasis on and provides a realistic means to ensure your long-term success. Think of your ERP vendor as a business partner. They should provide you with not only an affordable and reliable product, but long-term support and a commitment to help you refine and improve your use of the system over its entire life.
